A new challenge for Doug Gilmour

Training has confirmed the news at a press conference in the afternoon.

"I talked with Doug during the summer and I had discussions with him over the last two weeks about the head coach. We think this is an association natural ", revealed the general manager Larry Mavety in a statement published in the website of the team.

Mavety, a veteran of the stage of junior hockey in Ontario, held the position of head coach of the team since the dismissal of Bruce Cassidy in November 2007. Mavety is also director of hockey operations of the team.

The Frontenacs occupy the last row of Section East with a record of 5-13-4-1. They have signed a steady gain time to their last ten meetings.


Last August, Gilmour was named assistant coach of the Toronto Marlies of the AHL, who had spent the last two campaigns as an advisor in the organization of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Choice of the seventh round of the St. Louis Blues in 1982, Gilmour brought the colors of seven formations in the NHL (St. Louis, Calgary, Toronto, New Jersey, Chicago, Buffalo and Montreal). He won the Stanley Cup with the Flames in 1989 and won the Frank Selke trophy in the Leafs uniform in 1993.

During his career of 20 seasons in the NHL, Gilmour scored 450 goals and amassed 964 assists for a total of 1414 points in 1474 regular season games.

He retired in September 2003.
